PIERS —— A global symposium committed to
advancing photonics and electromagnetics for the benefit of humanity.
In the past few decades, the field of thermal photonics has emerged: thermal photonic structures with characteristics that are drastically different from those of the conventional thermal radiators provides new opportunities to manipulate thermal radiation on-demand. This has led to various applications in cooling, heating, energy harvesting, camouflage, and imaging. This session focuses on the fundamental physics of thermal radiation, high performance thermal photonic devices and related applications. Example topics include, but are not limited to: thermal photonics with tailored spectrum, polarization, and directivity, near-field/far-field thermal radiation, nonreciprocal thermal radiation, nonequilibrium thermal radiation, spatiotemporal modulation of thermal radiation, thermal metasurface and metamaterials, thermophotovoltaic (TPV) energy conversion, novel infrared optoelectronic devices, thermal radiation-assisted detection and ranging, radiative cooling/heating, solar energy harvesting, photonic refrigeration, etc.
